Group ABMNM classes:

In a group class, the teacher / practitioner leads a class giving verbal instructions to the group.  The lessons are similar in format to a group yoga class, with each student having their own space to perform the movements themselves on a mat and may include the use of some props such as chairs, bolsters or extra padding as needed.  As the practitioner guides the class through a sequence of movements, students move slowly, gently and with attention (basically using all the 9 essentials as needed).  A set of classes may be tailored to a theme such as “Healthy Backs”.  These classes are recommended for all!  We can all upgrade our brain to help us move and feel better.  Group ABMNM classes are called Transformational Movement Lessons or TMLs.

Please contact the practitioner if you have any concerns about your ability to participate.  Click here for a calendar of events to find classes close to you.

TMLs can also be done via streaming or DVD when a student cannot attend a live class.

Private ABMNM lessons:

In private lessons, the practitioner uses precise yet gentle movements and verbal instructions to guide the student to become aware of new possibilities in their movement, thoughts and emotions.  Each private lesson is individualized for that particular student at that particular time.  Each student is met where they are at and lessons are respectful, gentle and engaging, with no pain or strain.  The goal of the lesson is to ignite the student’s learning switch allowing for improvements in flexibility, strength, movement, coordination, cognition and emotional well-being.  You may hear these private sessions referred to as Functional Synthesis Lessons or FS.  A private lesson for a child may last 20-40 minutes, while for an adult it typically lasts 45 minutes.

Intensives:

Private lessons are often organized into intensive blocks as recommended by the practitioner.  For adults and children with a chronic condition or developmental delay, an intensive may be anywhere from 1-3 lessons per day for 3-5 days, with a typical intensive being 2 lessons a day for 5 days to provide maximum benefit.  How many intensives a person will need will depend on many things and cannot be predicted in advance.  Many students will do one or two lessons a week in between their monthly intensives to keep their learning fresh.  Over time the intensives can usually be spaced further apart as the student’s learning consolidates and improvements build.

Multiple Practitioner Intensives:

A group super intensive is a condensed intensive with Calgary Neuroplasticity Centre practitioners.  Super Intensives are typically 3-4 days of three 25-30 minute lessons per day. Designed to fit into your busy life, for those coming from out of town and those who wish to give ABM NeuroMovement a try.  Dates for Multi-practitioner intensives will be announced on our Events page.

Workshops:

If your group would like to learn more and experience how ABMNM can help your members, we provide presentations that include theory, demonstrations of the work and questions.  Past workshops include Autism Calgary BioMedical Group and Association for the Rehabilitation of the Brain Injured in Calgary.
